Amy Smith

Amy SmithAmy is a ceramic artist and sculptor. Since completing BA (Hons) in 3D Craft (Wood, Metal, Ceramics and Plastics) at Brighton University in 2003; Amy has worked in industry for 2 years, with Lambs Terracotta, producing architectural terracotta for restoration (www.lambsbricks.com - go to Terracotta and Faience); whilst establishing her studio practice. Amy now runs Clay Days from Blank. Clay Days are workshops for children, adults and groups of artists to play with clay in a fun, relaxed and inspiring environment. Amy also facilitates team building and corporate entertainment events. Amy is currently producing a new body of sculptural work alongside private commissions; a range of commercial vessels and other batch productions; as well as working on collaborative projects with other artists and ceramicists.

Working sculpturally, architecturally and industrially I explore the urban environment that surrounds us. I see beauty in the unconventionally beautiful; in high-rises, strings of pylons, water towers, cooling towers, motorways junctions, concrete bridges and tunnels; the monoliths of our modern world that dissect and punctuate the landscape.

Studying the composition of architectural features and structures; I explore scale and perspective; to create striking compositional pieces for the eye to explore and the mind to play in.
